Report from Indiana Land Resource Council November 2019 Meeting

  https://www.in.gov/isda/2357.htm

I drove across the state to attend this meeting. Other than Farm Bureau and other ag groups I was the only independent in the audience.  I can not tell you enough how important these meetings are to We The People who pay taxes.  The meeting was a discussion on how they were going to present to the counties the information from the one meeting they had earlier.  They discussed how they would select a county official and let the official pick the people who would attend the meeting.  It was all cut and dried, The members of the Council are from organizations around the state and of course Farm Bureau has a seat at the table.  I did find out the members are not paid but do receive expense money.  I can not remember all that was said as I was fuming inside and gave up on notes.  Remember, the Council is making recommendations on land use and is a part of the Dept of Ag of Indiana.

At the end of meeting they give the audience 5 minutes to comment. I took all the 5 minutes.  I will list the points I made

Farm Bureau is not the only Farm Organization in the State. Maybe they should contact the other organizations for input. Also, there are those like myself that are independent from organization but are part of the Ag in Indiana

If the Council is going to the Counties it should be a public meeting and public notice given so that all citizens have the opportunity to attend the meeting. We all have investments in our counties and are taxpayers.  All meetings should be open.

I asked it any of  the Council had studied the 303 d list of Impaired Waters of the State and if any consideration was given to how land use could prevent more impaired waterways.  I also mentioned that We The Tax Payers end up with paying the bill to clean up the water. (Since that meeting I have emailed the Policy Director with the person from the IDEM Dept of Water who is very knowledgeable and would give a good presentation.) He emailed me back that they would consider having her speak

As of Dec 9th the minutes of the meeting have not been posted-seems to me the minutes should have been posted. I sent the Policy Director an email asking why they were not posted. At the very least, they could post the minutes in a timely manner.

UPDATE:  I RECEIVED AN EMAIL THIS MORNING AND THE MINUTES WERE POSTED TODAY AFTER READING MY EMAIL OF DEC 9TH.  ALSO WAS TOLD THE POLICY DIRECTOR'S LAST DAY WAS DEC 6TH.  DID NOT DISCLOSE WHO THE NEW DIRECTOR WILL BE. I ASKED TO BE KEPT IN THE LOOP AS TO NEXT MEETING OF ILRC ETC.
